Find the right fit
“Students classified as dyslexic have varying strengths and challenges, and teaching them is too complex a task for a scripted, one-size-fits-all program.”
- The International Literacy Association
What's the linguistics edge?
Linguistics is the study of the structure of language and the cornerstone of the science of reading. It gives learners a clear map of how English works at several levels: sound (phonology), letter patterns (orthography), word formation (morphology), sentence patterns (syntax), and meaning (semantics).
Explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, combined with explicit work on vocabulary, syntax, and oral language, leads to measurable gains in literacy and reading comprehension.

A linguistics-based foundation demystifies language, empowering learners to see patterns and develop strategies that work across different words and contexts. It gives them the multisensory tools to "learn how to learn."
It helps readers tackle unfamiliar words using a combination of sound, letters, feeling, and meaning.

It helps spellers recognize that English words follow patterns. Many irregular spellings make sense when students learn word origins (etymology) and morphology. For example, knowing that "sign" and "signal" share a root explains why "sign" has a silent ‘g'.

It helps writers understand syntax and craft clear, varied sentences, toning style for varied audiences.

Linguistics combines with research in neuroscience, psychology, and education to form the scope of science of reading.

What We Offer

"Lindamood-Bell...is backed by a strong body of current research demonstrating its effectiveness."

Reading/Spelling
Linguistics Edge crafts multisensory plans that are grounded in the science of reading and tailors instruction to students’ preferences and needs.

It follows a reading progression based on Orton-Gillingham principles and training in Lindamood-Bell™ and Wired For Reading™ programs.
These are supplemented with materials from Blue Moose Literacy™, Morgan Dynamic Phonics™, Wilson Reading Systems™, Words Their Way™, and Wordwall™ for online students.
Math
Using techniques influenced by the On Cloud Nine™ program for dyslexic learners, students move from tangible manipulatives to abstract concepts. There is emphasis on using visualization and a number line to speed math fluency and unravel word problems. This evidence-based program can be taught separately or as a supplement to school curricula.
Comprehension
Some students read fluently yet struggle to articulate the main idea and remember
details of the passage they just read or the story they just heard. Techniques influenced by the unique Visualization and Verbalization™ program teach how to turn words into imagery, improving higher order thinking skills as well as verbal and written accuracy. This program especially helps students with weak listening comprehension, trouble following oral directions, and difficulty with oral and verbal expression.
Writing
Whether starting at bottom or top of their class, students learn to craft effective
sentences, identify principles of good writing across all genres, try different writing styles, and improve grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and syntax. Linguistics Edge applies research-based techniques to schoolwork or varied materials collected from the Web.
